One person is in critical condition with gunshot wounds and a police officer suffered minor injuries following a confrontation Thursday morning at Elmvale Acres Shopping Centre on St. Laurent Boulevard.Paramedics said the civilian victim, whose age and sex wasn’t immediately available, was in critical condition with injuries described as life-threatening.There was no further information provided on the injured police officer.Police responded to the Elmvale Acres Shopping Centre on St. Laurent Boulevard shortly before 8 a.m., after receiving a report than a man dressed in all black was seen entering the mall with a knife in his hand.A wide area was cordoned off at the mall, in front of the Loblaws store and RBC bank branch at the mall’s west end.Unconfirmed reports at the scene indicated the victim appeared to have been shot in leg and shoulder area.Yvan Simard, a janitor who works in the area, said that he saw police officers performing CPR on a black man in his 30s until paramedics arrived.Officers had roadblocks in effect around the shopping centre south of Smyth Road and OC Transpo closed the nearby Elmvale station “until further notice.”

A city police spokesman could not confirm whether it was a suspect or police who fired shots. No arrests had been made.Const.
