Riverside residents wanting to run for City Council in Ward 1, 3, 5 or 7 can officially do so starting Monday, Feb. 11.
Candidates have until March 8 to take out and file nomination papers with the city clerk.
Nomination petitions require at least 20 signatures and a maximum of 30 signatures of qualified voters in the same ward. Candidates must file additional paperwork at the same time.
The deadline to vote in the all-mail ballot election is June 4. If no candidate for a ward receives more than 50 percent of the vote, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will become the candidates in a runoff election Nov. 5.
The terms are five years because, starting in 2024, Riverside will switch to elections held in even-numbered years to coincide with statewide elections.
