PETAWAWA – Valour JK-12 school in Petawawa recently hosted the Renfrew County Elementary Interschool Athletic Association (RCEIAA) Trivia Championships.In the school gymnasium, 27 teams of Grade 7 and 8 8 elementary students from the Upper Ottawa Valley gathered to compete for the right to declare themselves the smartest elementary school in Renfrew County.Each team consisted of eight members who consulted together to come up with answers during five rounds of 20 questions.Students were challenged with a wide variety of questions ranging from music , images, geography, art, entertainment, history, science and current events.There were Grade 7 and Grade 8 teams representing Highview, Pineview, Rockwood, Mackenzie, Champlain Discovery, Herman Street, St. Anthony’s, St. Francis of Assisi, Equinoxe and Valour.After the dust had settled from five furious rounds of questions, the battle for supremacy was a hotly contested affair. In the Grade 7 category the team from Champlain Discovery narrowly edged Rockwood 178 to 166 for the championship with Mackenzie finishing in third.The Grade 8 category was close as well, with Highview Team # 2 capturing the title, winning with 175 points over Highview Team # 1 with 173. Mackenzie finished third with 162.Congratulations to all the teams and their hardworking coaches for a competitive day of trivia.
