The 17th annual Hair Massacure was held in support of the Children’s Wish Foundation and Terry Fox PROFYLE charities as supporters gathered at West Edmonton Mall on Friday, Feb 22, 2019. They shared the hope of a world without pediatric cancers while showing their support for families facing a cancer diagnosis with pink hair, beards, stuffed animals and construction helmets.The MacDonald family’s youngest daughter Kali was diagnosed with leukemia in 2000. Two years later the first, and at the time modest, St. Valentine’s Day Massacure was held. In the 16 years since, the charity has raised $12 million to assist families facing cancer diagnoses and to fund efforts to improve living with and the treatment of cancers.The Hair Massacure involves 400 volunteers, including 100 hair stylists, and raises about $1,000,000 annually. They’re expecting to shave 1,000 heads at the 2019 event and are hoping to top $13 million. More information can be found at hairmassacure.com.
