Work along Interstate 35W in Minneapolis will prompt the temporary closure of a portion of the highway overnight Thursday.
Southbound lanes between Interstate 94 and Minnesota 62 will be closed from 10 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday. Access to downtown Minneapolis from northbound I-35W will also be closed during those hours, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The detour for the route will be I-94 west to Interstate 394 west to Minnesota 100 south to Minnesota 62 east to I-35W.
During the closing, work crews will install 24th Street bridge beams and will patch potholes and ruts on the highway. The work is part of the I-35W Downtown to Crosstown project that includes MnPASS upgrades, new noise barriers, a new rapid bus station and other roadway and bridge improvements.
