SPOILER ALERT: The following post contains the results from Wednesday night’s Season 1 finale of “The Masked Singer,” which has already aired on the East Coast.
It has been called “car-crash TV.” … Weird. Silly. Bizarre. Creepy. …
But you can also call “The Masked Singer” a big primetime hit for Fox.
Did anyone see that coming?
On Wednesday night, Season 1 of this strange South Korean import came to an end in a two-hour finale that was actually filmed months ago. But unlike most singing competitions, this musical mystery had us wanting to know more than just who won the contest (and took home the Golden Mask).
We wanted to know who those celebrities were behind the wildly elaborate Monster, Bee and Peacock costumes.
And so our winner, as announced by host Nick Cannon was …
T-Pain! (In the Monster suit).
Finishing second was Gladys Knight (In the Bee Costume), and taking third was Donny Osmond, aka as Mr. Peacock.
Did you guess them all? Surprisingly (or not), judges Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke never guessed the identity of the winner at any time during the season. Of course, who could have guessed that T-Pain — who is mainly known as a rapper (and his extensive use of AutoTune) — would out-sing the entire 12-person field?
But T-Pain (or Monster, if you prefer) brought down the house with his semifinal cover of Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me.”
