Here’s what happened while the Montreal Impact opened their season with a win.Jody-Wilson Raybould said she would seek re-election as a Liberal.“It really has been quite remarkable,” Wilson-Raybould said Saturday, in her first public remarks since her bombshell testimony. “I have heard from thousands of people — neighbours, friends, constituents, as well as people from all across Canada.” The former attorney general said she plans to run for re-election in the fall under the Liberal banner in Vancouver Granville. Wilson-Raybould stunned Ottawa last week with three hours of shocking testimony in the SNC-Lavalin affair, saying she was hounded for months to let the engineering company off the hook on criminal corruption charges. She said she faced a “sustained effort” and “veiled threats” to intervene in the case. Trudeau removed her as attorney general in January and she resigned from his cabinet outright on Feb. 12. “Like Canadians everywhere, I just try to do my job the best I can,” she said, adding she’s been recognized everywhere she goes while messages of support pour in.The Habs endured a very bad night at the Bell Centre, losing 5-1 to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The win allowed the Penguins to claim the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Pittsburgh and Montreal have 77 points each but the Canadiens dropped into the second wild-card spot because they have played one more game. The Canadiens outshot the Penguins 12-4 in the first period, but the Penguins scored three goals on those four shots. The Montreal power play once again came up empty, going 0-for-3. Montreal had 20 shots that were off target and 20 more were blocked. The power play has scored one goal in 24 opportunities over the past 10 games.A cat named Stormy that has spent more than six years as a fixture in a remote Alaska general store is being forced out after officials notified the store owners that the cat’s presence violates food safety standards. The Fritz Creek General Store near the small city of Homer has been home for Stormy since 2012, The Homer News reported Thursday. The slightly overweight black cat often lounges on one of the store’s wooden chairs or solicits customers for a scratch on her head. Stormy is part of the store’s and the rural community’s culture, said Linda Chamberlain, who frequents the general store. Several people visit the shop just to greet the cat, she said. Certain regulations may work in Alaska metropolitan areas like Anchorage, but they do not always account for special circumstances in other places, Chamberlain said. Stormy might even make the store more hygienic, said Al Breitzman, a Fritz Creek regular, who said the cat helps reduce the rodent population. With files from The Vancouver Sun, Associated Press.
