De La Salle gambled on itself with a trip to Las Vegas last week and returned as champion of the all-Catholic Classic after going 4-0 in Sin City.
In fact, the Spartans haven’t lost since March 2 and are riding a 17-game win streak, which makes De La Salle the undisputed top-ranked team for the Bay Area News Group.
No. 2 Los Altos, which is coming off a 10-day layoff during spring break, is in the midst of a four-game week and already recorded victories over Willow Glen and Branham.
No. 3 Valley Christian was nearly no-hit in a rematch of last year’s CCS Open Division championship game at No. 5 Los Gatos, but managed to scratch an RBI single in the eighth inning of a 2-0 victory.
Meanwhile, No. 6 Archbishop Mitty climbed three spots in the rankings after a 2-0 victory over Bellarmine in the Boras Classic Northern California championship game at Sacramento State.
The biggest drop belonged to No. 10 Foothill, which has lost three of its past four games and fell five spots in the rankings.
