Five months after a strip club dancer was found dead in a Lakewood motel bathroom, police have arrested the man they say killed her.
Matthew Williams, 27, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree murder after a lengthy investigation into the death of 22-year-old Olivia Hector. Cleaning staff found Hector dead on Nov. 8 on the floor of a room at a Motel 6 on Wadsworth Boulevard.
Hector’s death first gained public attention after a Denver police officer faced discipline for searching her name on a law enforcement database. Denver police leadership became aware of the infraction when Lakewood police interviewed the officer, Shederick Dobbin, about Hector’s death. Dobbin knew Hector from her work at PT’s Showclub, but he was not a suspect in her death.

Investigators first considered Hector’s death suspicious, but an initial autopsy couldn’t determine the cause of her death. The medical examiner found faint abrasions on her neck, but couldn’t confirm if she had been strangled. There were no signs of a struggle and Hector was found naked, according to the autopsy report.
Later tests confirm that she had been strangled.
Hector and Williams had an “on-again, off-again relationship,” Lakewood police spokesman John Romero said.
Hector checked into the motel on the night before she was found dead. She was accompanied by an unidentified man and a dog, according to the autopsy report.
Hector had paperwork in her bags at the hotel showing that she had previously been a victim of domestic violence, the autopsy report stated. The paperwork indicated she had been choked.
Prosecutors charged Williams with first-degree murder. He appeared in court Wednesday morning.
