NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Drum roll, please… the nominations for the 73rd annual Tony Awards will be announced this morning on CBS2.
It’s expected to be a tough match for best musical.
“Tootsie,” starring Santino Fontana will likely be in the running. The Hollywood Reporter says it’s the only musical with Drama Desk nominations for Best Musical and Best Direction of a Musical.
“The Prom” is also expected to make a splash. It’s already nominated for Best Book and Best Music from the Drama Desk Awards, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Amber Gray and the cast of “Hadestown” will likely be livin’ it up this morning. The new musical inspired by Greek mythology received 12 Outer Critics Circle Award nominations.

The race for best play is also tight.
The Hollywood Reporter predicts it will be a face-off between Jez Butterworth’s Northern Irish play, “The Ferryman,” which won Best New Play last year in London, and Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Jeff Daniels plays Atticus Finch in the classic about race and justice in 1930s Alabama.

Sticking with the political theme, the Hollywood Reporter says “What the Constitution Means to Me,” a part-autobiographical piece by Heidi Schreck, is also a strong contender.
