Five Calgary winners were among the entrepreneurs, businesses and support organizations recognized at the 2019 Prairies Regional Startup Canada Awards on Thursday evening.The annual Startup Canada Awards are designed to reward excellence in Canada’s entrepreneurship and innovation community. The awards aim to celebrate those working to advance entrepreneurship in Canada, increase awareness of the importance of strengthening Canada’s entrepreneurship ecosystem and culture, and incentivize efforts and elevate the ambitions of the Canadian entrepreneurial and innovation community.At a ceremony in Edmonton, 10 winners from across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba were announced. The Calgary winners were Valhalla Private Capital, which took home the Entrepreneur Support Award; Local Laundry, winner of the Entrepreneur’s Choice Award; Bobbie Racette, who took home the Woman Entrepreneur Award; Claire Du, winner of the Young Entrepreneur Award; and Drizzle Honey, winner of the Social Enterprise Award.The regional winners will now be evaluated by a national adjudication committee comprising some of Canada’s leading entrepreneurship and industry experts. The national winners will be celebrated at the Startup Canada Awards Grand Finale in Toronto in October 2019.
