Canada is full of interesting bars with unique menus and interesting designs, but Whistler’s Umbrella Bar might be the country’s coolest for its epic views alone. The watering hole, which opened in 2018, is perched at 6,000 feet on the summit of Whistler Mountain, offering nearly 360-degree views of the surrounding mountain range. It’s the newest addition to the Roundhouse Lodge property, which includes the long-standing restaurant and bar that operates nearby. While the bar has become most popular during spring season when the weather offers near-perfect conditions for skiers and snowboarders, anyone can enjoy a drink on the 63-seat patio whatever the season. The Umbrella Bar, which is accessible via the Whistler Village Gondola, is open year-round.The 12-metre umbrella roof with steel and floor-to-ceiling glass walls is heated inside during the winter, but when the sun is shining during the summer months, the roof collapses like an umbrella, creating an open-air experience.
If you’re planning a trip to Whistler, make sure you schedule time for a cocktail, pint or glass of Pino at the mountaintop Umbrella Bar, the perfect place to toast the majestic British Columbia wilderness. In fact, you might want to give yourself time for two, just in case.
