I love travelling by train! I am making this declaration as if my story on taking the train from Toronto to Halifax didn’t make it clear. However, fellow train lovers, the time of the year when VIA Rail unleashes discounts on almost all of its journeys is here. Get the map out and start planning! From now until June 2, when you book a trip with VIA Rail you can receive up to 40 per cent in savings in the company’s Plan Your Summer sale. There are a few caveats, so I’ve simplified the categories to make booking your next Canadian exploration easier.
Up to 40% off Long Distance TripsEver fancying leaving Ontario and head to the Maritimes for a romantic getaway? Or, finally biting the bullet and head off to spend the summer in Banff? Book a ticket or travel between May 29 and October 31, 2019, and receive a 20% discount on Sleeper Plus, Touring and Economy class tickets. Want to get ahead of the holiday rush and book for travel between November 1 and December 31, 2019? Then you’ll receive 40% off tickets in the classes mentioned above.Photo by Matthew Fournier on Unsplash$15 Tickets for KidsYou read that, right! Book an economy class ticket for travel between June 15 and September 15, and you can add a kid’s (between two and 11 years-old) ticket for only $15. VIA Rail is all about families so if you have a few kids of your own, or have your nieces and nephews for the summer and want to take them on an adventure without breaking the bank, up to five children can travel for $15 each per adult travelling on the same itinerary. It looks like Christmas will be celebrated in summer this year.Photo by Biova Nakou on Pexels20% off Business ClassTravelling from Toronto to Montreal, London to Ottawa, or Windsor to Quebec City between June 15 and September 15? Then you’ll be able to receive a 20% discount off the best available fares in Business Class (née VIA 1). The Quebec City-Windsor corridor is one of VIA Rail’s most popular routes; as a result, there are many daily departures. Perks of Business Class include strong Wi-Fi signals (I can attest to that); access to a well-appointed lounge with complimentary non-alcoholic drinks and newspapers; a hot three-course meal on-board; and an impressive selection of wine and cocktails.
Up to 40% off CanRailpassThe CanRailpass is for the serious traveller. The Corridor pass allows you to travel between Quebec and Ontario for 21 consecutive days, while the System pass will enable you to travel across Canada for 60 consecutive days.
