A stop at a RIDE check in West Grey resulted in the seizure of 116 grams of cocaine and $10,000.Just after 10 p.m. on Saturday, the West Grey Police Service was conducting a RIDE program on Grey Rd. 3 in the former Normandby Township when a black Toyota car approached them.While speaking with the driver, police detected the smell of alcohol coming from the driver, who told police that he had not consumed alcohol and that the smell may have been coming from an empty beer container in his back seat, it said in a news release.The driver was ordered to provide a breath sample into a roadside screening device, which he did. It showed that he had consumed alcohol prior to driving, but he was below the legal blood alcohol limit, the news release said.A search of his vehicle was conducted and a zip lock bag containing 116 grams of cocaine was found in the back seat. Beside it was a white plastic bag containing more than $10,000 in Canadian currency and some foreign currency. The estimated street value of the drugs is $11,600, the news release said.The drugs and money were both seized from the accused and his vehicle was towed and seized as part of proceeds of crime.A 27-year-old Ayton man was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. He was held in police custody for a court appearance on Sunday.
