A small plane slid off the runway and into a field during a landing Monday evening at Riverside Municipal Airport.
The plane’s landing gear failed as it touched down, according to Capt. Brian Guzzetta, spokesman for the Riverside Fire Department.
“There wasn’t anything out of the ordinary with the landing,” Guzzetta said. “There was just an equipment malfunction.”
The incident involving a Cessna 182 was reported at 5:06 p.m.
Neither of the two passengers aboard were injured. Both had exited the plane by the time the Fire Department arrived.
Fire personnel dealt with a small fuel leak before clearing the scene. The case will be turned over to the National Transportation Safety Board for further investigation.
