The Township of Whitewater Region is scrambling to find a new contractor for curbside garbage and recycling collection after its previous contractor abruptly announced it was closing.

WHITEWATER REGION – Regular curbside garbage collection is expected to resume in the township beginning the week of July 8.The township is one of several in Renfrew County scrambling to arrange curbside pickup after being informed by Beaumen Waste Management Systems Ltd., the previous contractor for garbage and recycling collection, would be “permanently closed” as of Sunday, June 23.Residents are not to place your garbage or recycling at curbside at this time as the township is negotiating with a different contractor, according to a release issued Wednesday, June 26.In the interim, the municipal landfill site at 990 Kohlsmith Rd. will be open to take material normally accepted at curbside. The hours of operation are from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 27-29, July 3, 5-6. The site will also be open July 2 and 4 from 2-8 p.m.The municipality thanks residents for their patience and co-operation during this transition.
