There are plenty of options in and around Stratford to celebrate the country’s 152nd birthday this weekend.The city’s main party will be held in Market Square from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, punctuated by live music featuring acts such as Trent Severn, Upside of Maybe, Strings and Traps, and The Jazz Gents. The music is co-ordinated by Dayna Manning’s Folk Army.“We’re pretty excited about that,” said Brad Hernden, the city’s manager of recreation and marketing.In addition to the tunes, there will be food trucks, a caricaturist, street performers, temporary tattoos and face painting, horse-drawn carriage rides, and a photo booth inside of a converted vintage mobile camper.“He brings a really cool trailer. He’s just super fun to have on site,” Hernden said.Local organizations such as Gallery Stratford, the Stratford Lions Pool – there will be a free swim there from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. – and the Stratford Public Library will be hosting activities for children.“Lots of activities to do when you’re there if you don’t just want to focus on the musical entertainment,” Hernden said.Patrons of all ages are encouraged to wear red and white attire.

As of Friday, the forecast for Monday was 27 C with a 40 per cent chance of rain, according to The Weather Network.“Right now, it doesn’t look too bad. There might be a bit of rain in the forecast, but we’re rain or shine – unless of course there’s lightning or the wind is blowing too hard that the rain is disrupting some of the musical performances,” Hernden said.Later that day, the Kinsmen Club of Stratford will be running its signature parade followed by fireworks at SERC. Kinsmen Bob Walters said, as of Friday, they had about 40 floats on board, including a handful of new entries and several bands.“Everything’s shaping up well,” he said.The parade begins at 7 p.m. from Central and the show in the sky will be at dusk, Walters said. The St. Marys celebrationOver in St. Marys, the Canada Day celebration kicks off at 10 a.m. Monday at Cadzow Park. There will be a by-donation pancake brunch leading up to a parade leaving the Pyramid Recreation Centre at 11 a.m.“Our volunteer-led parade is growing every year,” Andrea Macko, the town’s events co-ordinator, wrote in an email.A lengthy lineup of events runs until 4 p.m. At 9 p.m., there will be a free, family-friendly movie in the park sponsored by The Friends of the Library.“Bring your blankets and wear your pyjamas,” Macko wrote.For a full schedule, visit bit.ly/2FE6IaC.email@example.com
