The company behind an award-winning lake community in southeast Calgary will now be developing and building the last opportunity to buy a new home in Arbour Lake.Hopewell Residential — the developer behind Mahogany — has received the green light from city council for its latest community, Arbour Lake West, and expects to see home sales come on stream this autumn, says the builder and developer.Arbour Lake West, of which the residential component will be built exclusively by Hopewell, is planned for 139 front-garage homes and more than 650 condos and townhomes with an attached garage.Sightlines will be an appealing factor from this community, as well, with many orientated to capture views of the Rocky Mountains, says Hopewell.“Arbour Lake West completes the Arbour Lake community that’s been 30-plus years in the making,” says Brett Friesen, Hopewell’s vice-president, development and multi-family. “It offers new opportunities for purchasing homes in a quadrant of the city with high demand but with no new housing supply available.“Hopewell is the first to introduce new homes in this area of the city for some time — and it’s Calgary’s last chance to buy a new home in this extremely desirable community.”Friesen says discussions on the land purchase began in May 2016 and closed in April 2017. In October 2016, the Arbour Lake Residents Association voted to accept the community’s future homeowners into the association.Residents of the 17.4-hectare Arbour Lake West will have access to the amenities in the existing Arbour Lake community, including its title feature, a four-hectare lake.
