BC Wildfire Service is asking boaters on Osoyoos Lake to make room for planes collecting water for a wildfire near Cawston.
“We’d like to ask boaters on the northern end of Osoyoos Lake to clear the area so skimmers may safely carry out firefighting operations on the Richter Mountain wildfire,” BC Wildfire service stated.
The wildfire, burning in the Richter Mountain area south-east of Cawston, is estimated to be 60 hectares in size.
BC Wildfire Service currently has 44 firefighters on site, along with airtankers and one helicopter.
“Fire activity may increase as we reach the heat of the day,” BC Wildfire Service stated.
