The A’s bullpen is getting even stronger at the trade deadline.
Oakland acquired left-handed reliever Jake Diekman from the Kansas City Royals Saturday in exchange for minor leaguers Ismael Aquino, a pitcher, and Dairon Blanco, an outfielder.
Diekman has a 4.75 earned-run average in 41.2 innings of relief work for the Royals this season.

The A’s have added to their biggest area of strength in trading for Diekman. He will join 2019 All-Star Liam Hendriks, Blake Treinen and Lou Trevino in the Oakland pen.
Diekman signed a deal for $2.25 million with the Royals for 2019, and his contract includes a $5.75 million mutual option for next season.
A Phillies 30th-round pick in 2007, Diekman was traded from Philadelphia to Texas along with starting pitcher Cole Hamels in 2015.
Last season, the Rangers moved him to Arizona at the deadline, but he racked up a 7.53 ERA in his half-season with the Diamondbacks before reaching free agency.
