B.C.’s police watchdog is reviewing an attempted arrest that that took place prior to a suspect drowning in the Fraser River.According to the Independent Investigations Office of B.C., Hope RCMP had attempted an arrest on Friday following the sighting of a suspected stolen vehicle.Three of the four people inside the suspected stolen car were arrested by police, while a fourth person fled on foot.The person was last spotted swimming in the Fraser River but RCMP officers lost sight of the man. Search and rescue attempts were also unsuccessful.A short time later, a body was pulled from the Fraser River, believed to be the suspect who had fled Hope RCMP by foot.The IIO will now review the circumstances of the arrest to determine if police action or inaction are linked to the man’s drowning death.The IIOBC investigates police-involved cases that result in injury or death.sip@postmedia.comtwitter.com/stephanie_ip
