The suspect who’s now in custody in an alleged murder case is being accused of killing his own mother, says his lawyer.Alexander Mackenzie, 33, was arrested on July 27 around 12:30 p.m. in the city’s west end in relation to what police describe as a homicide investigation in the 600 block of Mill Street.The house at 628 Mill St. was surrounded by crime scene tape on July 24 just after 12 p.m. Police have since disclosed that the body of a 64-year-old Windsor woman was found there.The death was initially described as suspicious. After further investigation, the case was categorized as a homicide on July 25.According to Windsor defence lawyer Frank Miller, the deceased was a parent to the accused. Police would not confirm that.

“I’ve heard through a number of sources,” said Miller, who has been retained by Mackenzie and has represented him in previous cases.Mackenzie made a court appearance on Monday via video. He remains in custody, and is scheduled for another appearance on Tuesday.He faces a charge of first-degree murder.Windsor police publicly identified Mackenzie as the suspect and issued a photo of him on July 26. At the time, police said he should be considered armed and dangerous.Members of the Major Crimes Branch are continuing to investigate.Anyone with information is encouraged to call detectives at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830.Anonymous tips can be made via Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477 or catchcrooks.com.The case involving Mackenzie is Windsor’s third homicide investigation of the year.The first began on the night of May 25, when the body of 63-year-old Gerardine Butterfield was found in her apartment at 591 Wellington Ave. Police are still seeking a suspect in that case, which was classified as a homicide following an autopsy on the deceased.The second homicide investigation of the year involves a Windsor man and woman, who are both facing second-degree murder charges in relation to the death of their infant child.The baby was brought to hospital with injuries on June 8, and eventually succumbed to those injuries on July 2.Police have not released the names of the man and the woman in order to protect the identity of the child victim.Related
