Previously the Auxiliary had announced a $500,000 commitment to the campaign that is raising money for upgrades to the hospital’s inpatient surgical unit and to fund orthopaedic equipment.“This donation represents many volunteer hours and hard work by Auxiliary members who not only provide our visitors, patients and staff with a variety of amenities but also fundraise to enable our hospital to purchase equipment and make improvements that we otherwise couldn’t afford,” said Sheila Clarke, vice-chairwoman of the PRH board. “Through generous gifts from community-minded individuals and groups like the PRH Auxiliary, this important area within the hospital will be brought up to modern standards and provide a more comfortable environment for the thousands of surgical patients we care for each year.”The money was presented during a break in the fashion show that introduced the new season of fashions, and accessories available in the auxiliary’s Sunshine Gift Shop located inside the hospital.Through the Cutting Edge Campaign the Foundation is seeking to raise a total of $2.5 million. Including the Auxiliary’s $500,000 commitment, there is a little over half-million dollars to raise. The project will see a new surgical day care area with 12 recovery stations, four new private inpatient suites, upgrades to existing rooms, a new family lounge and other space improvements.
