Provincial police on Friday announced that the second of four people who died in a fiery crash on Highway 440 in Laval on Monday has been formally identified. The Sûreté du Québec said that Sylvain Pouliot, 55, of Terrebonne was among those killed. Earlier this week, the Quebec coroner’s office identified another victim as 26-year-old Robert Tanguay-Laplante of Laval. While the remaining two victims have yet to be formally identified, news reports this week identified them as Gilles Marsolais, 54, and Michèle Bernier, 48, both of them retired Montreal police officers.Fifteen other people were injured during the crash — three of them initially listed as being in critical condition — on the busy highway near the exit leading to Highway 15 North. The multi-vehicle pileup began after a tractor-trailer crashed into a vehicle in the right-hand lane. Another 18-wheeler and several cars were also involved in the fiery crash.During the accident, one of the trucks caught fire and flames spread to the other vehicles. The provincial transport ministry is examining what can be done to make the stretch of highway — one of the busiest in the Montreal area — less hazardous.Related
